Sonar Leak Detection

If you’re unfamiliar with how leak detection process works, let us give you a quick rundown. Firstly, we’ll visually check your pool for any telltale signs of a leak—after nearly 20 years in the business, sometimes a quick pool inspection can provide a solid indication of what’s going on! For us, this means slipping on the wetsuit and getting down to business.

If there are no visible issues with the body of your pool or equipment, we will set about pressure testing your pipes which will provide an indication of any damage. Then using our sonar equipment we will apply ultrasound technology to the inside of your pipes to pinpoint the exact location of the leak.

After drying ourselves off, we’ll report back to you, providing the information about what’s going on and options for fixing your pool or pipework. Fed up with your leaky pool? Get in touch with us today!

FAQs

  • How do I know if my pool is leaking?

The best way to find out if you have a pool leak is to call a leak detection specialist to take a look. They will run through with you over the phone, how to carry out an initial check to make sure your water loss isn’t due to everyday use or evaporation.

  • What is a Bucket Test?

The Bucket Test is a simple task you can undertake to determine whether your pool has a leak. Here’s the step-by-step process:

    1. Ensure your pool water is at usual operating level and all pool equipment is turned off
    2. Fill a plastic bucket with your pool water, leaving approximately a 50mm gap at the top of the bucket
    3. Mark the internal of the bucket to show the water level
    4. Place the bucket on a pool step so that the pool water level is around 75% of the way up the outside of the bucket.  You may need to sit something between the step and the bucket to achieve the correct height
    5. Mark the pool water level outside of the bucket
    6. Ensure the pool is not used for 24 hours
    7. If it rains during this time, steps 1-7 will need to be repeated.
    8. After 24 hours, mark the new water levels on the inside and outside of the bucket
    9. Measure the water loss on both the inside and outside of the bucket.  If the water loss is greater on the outside of the bucket than inside, it is highly likely you have a pool leak.
